You can call this one the Battle of the Breakout Quarterbacks. Last season, Case Keenum was that guy for the Minnesota Vikings but is now with the Denver Broncos. This season, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the breakout star. But only one will be the star on Sunday night.
Keenum has been okay with the Broncos but has not had a truly great game yet. He had some moments against the Seahawks and Raiders, but then last week, against the Ravens, he struggled. But to be fair, the Ravens do have a pretty tough defence.
The Chiefs do not.
Mahomes has defeated every obstacle he’s faced so far. He simply has too many weapons and seems to excel at utilizing them all. However, he has yet to play a defence as tough as Denver’s. Then again, the Broncos can rush the passer and shut down the run but have still given up over 260 yards a game.
So—who’s going to win?
Mahomes will have another big day but don’t expect him to have another day like he has been. Case Keenum will have a good one, too. But Mahomes will have a better one because he has better weapons around him.
The Broncos defence will be a challenge, but he’ll overcome it. So, take the Chiefs to win (-222.22) over the Broncos (+175) and cover the spread (4.5). With the potential for points in this game, take the over (55).
