Chargers vs. Steelers Match Preview & Betting Odds 2018/19

One week doesn’t make a season, but Steelers fans can’t like what they saw last week against the Broncos. James Conner was limited. While they managed to throw for 400+ yards, Ben Roethlisberger only had a single touchdown.

The Chargers are going to put up an even better fight. Their pass defence (seventh in yards/game allowed) is much better than Denver’s (24th). The Chargers pass rush has not been as good as Denver’s, but with the return of Joey Bosa, the Chargers pass rush is about to get a lot better.

The Steelers currently lead the league in sacks with 39.

Pittsburgh’s pass defence is not bad (sixth). However, when they faced some of the better passers earlier this season (i.e., Patrick Mahomes, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Joe Flacco), they were decimated. Philip Rivers has the game and the weapons to do the same.

But the Steelers may have an edge this week with Melvin Gordon out. Austin Ekeler is a capable reserve, but he can’t replace Gordon’s production. Will that be enough to give the Steelers the edge they need to win?

  • Spread: Steelers by 3.5

The Steelers will present a much bigger challenge to the Chargers than the Cardinals did. But they may struggle to put enough of their own game together to get the win. Take the Chargers and the points.

  • Over/Under: 51.5

With what both offences are capable of doing, the over is probably a safe bet.

  • Money line: Chargers +155.00; Steelers -185.19

This is probably going to be a very good game; one that comes down to the wire. But in the end, the Chargers are just a better team.
