Last weekend was an important one for the teams in the CFL with playoff aspirations. When all was said and done, there were a few that ended up having something to be thankful for.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats were off over the weekend but ended up being quite thankful Calgary was able to get over a rare poor outing by pivot Bo Levi Mitchell. The Stampeders were shut out by the Alouettes for three quarters but managed to get enough offence going in the fourth to secure the win.
Calgary victory secured a playoff spot for the Ticats and eliminated the Alouettes from postseason contention.
The BC Lions continued their push to the postseason with a win over the Toronto Argonauts, 26-23. Their victory over the Argonauts eliminated Toronto from the playoff picture but also secured a home playoff game for the Ottawa Redblacks.
Toronto’s loss also locked in a team from the West division earning a spot in the East Division playoff bracket.
So, while there was a lot that happened last weekend, the fun and excitement are far from over. Ottawa, Hamilton, and Calgary have locked up spots in the playoffs. But no one has locked up a division yet. As close as some of these races are, that may not happen until the last week of the regular season.
Calgary can lock down a home playoff game with a win and possibly even if they lose (depending on how the rest of the weekend goes). Whatever happens, it should be a great weekend of CFL action.
