Last weekend’s division semifinals featured four teams in pretty unique situations.
The BC Lions came on strong in the second half of the season. They were not a particularly strong offensive team, but their defence was able to keep them in games and help them win. But could they keep it going against one of the better offensive teams in the league?
Then again, that team—the Hamilton Tiger-Cats – struggled on offence as the regular season came to a close. With how they were playing, they would probably not be able to handle the Lions. Could Jeremiah Masoli resurrect the offence and lead the team to victory?
Winnipeg entered the weekend as the team no one wanted to face—the red-hot one. The last few weeks of the regular season saw them click on both sides of the ball incredibly well. Could the good luck continue against a good Saskatchewan team?
As for the Roughriders, they were one of the better teams for much of the season but became wildly inconsistent as the season came to a close. Could they find their groove in time to down the Blue Bombers?
We know now that the day belonged to the Tiger-Cats and Blue Bombers. But now they have to go on the road to face the division winners. Hamilton gets to face off against the Ottawa Redblacks while the Blue Bombers will get the Calgary Stampeders.
Ottawa dominated the Ticats during the regular season while the Blue Bombers and Stampeders split their season series. But that doesn’t mean anything going into the division finals. All that matters now is who is playing better football.
