Canada came through their semi-final against the defending champions Finland with an emphatic 5-0 win in which they had the game all but won after just 3:55 as they raced into a 3-0 lead.
They were 4-0 up by the end of the first period and then just saw the game out with the added benefit of a shutout against the team who eliminated them at the quarter-final stage a year ago.
Alexis Lafreniere led the offense for Canada with two goals, with the other goals coming from Connor McMichael, Jamie Drysdale and Ty Dellandrea. Joel Hofer stopped 32 shots for the shutout.
Russia didn’t have things so easy in their semi-final, with them just edging out Sweden 5-4 in OT. They fell behind after just 16 seconds and were 4-3 down in the third period before taking the game into overtime where Ivan Morozov scored the decisive goal (his second of the game).
The other Russian goals came from Yegor Sokolov (who also scored twice) and Alexander Khovanov. Yaroslav Askarov saved 16 shots for the Russians, with replacement Amir Miftakhov saving five from five.
