The KeyBank Center plays host to a game between Atlantic Division rivals the Buffalo Sabres (5-4-0) and Montreal Canadiens (5-1-2) on Thursday evening.
Against the betting odds according to many pundits, the Sabres are holding their own in the Atlantic Division thus far this season and they come into this game having won both of their last two games on the road at the Los Angeles Kings (5-1) and the Anaheim Ducks (4-2), the latter in which they recovered from being two goals down.
On the downside, the Sabres are only averaging 2.44 Goals per Game, although they are making up for that defensively where have only allowed 2.78 Goals per Game.
The Canadiens have also defied many expert predictions to date, starting their season in far better form than many had anticipated. Their promising start continued on Tuesday night with a superb 3-2 win on home-ice against the Calgary Flames and they’ve lost just one of eight games in regulation time this season.
After falling behind in the first period against the Flames, the Canadiens turned the game in their favour with three goals in 3 minutes 21 seconds late in the second period from Jeff Petry, Brendan Gallagher and Jonathan Drouin.
Montreal’s Goals per Game average is a respectable 3.25, leaving them 14th overall in the NHL standings. The Canadiens are 24th in terms of Goals per Games conceded in allowing 2.63.
Although the betting lines for this game favour the Sabres, the Canadiens are our tips on the basis of having shown greater consistency this season and possessing more of a goal threat.
