WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Brown Bomber” Wilder (40-0-1) will make a ninth defense of his title against mandatory challenger Dominic “Trouble” Breazeale (20-1-0) at the Barclays Center in New York on 18 May.

Wilder won the title thanks to a Unanimous Decision victory over Bermane Stiverne in January 2015. This will be his first fight since he lost his 100% record in the controversial Split Decision draw against Tyson Fury.

Although Deontay Wilder is known for his KO record (winning 39 of his 40 fights), five of his last seven stoppage victories have come in the 8th round or later.

Recommended Odds

The 33-year old Dominic Breazeale has lost just one of his 21 fights, which was to the IBF, WBO and WBA champion Anthony Joshua. He lost the fight to Joshua by a Technical Knockout in June 2016.

The California-born Breazeale has 18 KOs in his 20 wins to date, so he certainly has a puncher’s chance against Wilder. Since his loss to Joshua, he has since beaten Izu Ugonoh (by KO in 5th round), Éric Molina (retired in 8th round) and Carlos Negrón (by KO in 9th round).

The winner of this bout could potentially be in line for an undisputed title fight with the winner of the Joshua fight against the American Jarrell Miller, which itself takes place in New York on 1 June.

Deontay Wilder vs Dominic Breazeale Betting Lines & Pick

Boxing predictions for this fight naturally have to take into account that these boxers rarely go the distance in their fights. However, Wilder has an advantage in terms of speed and Breazeale can look a little predictable when it comes to telegraphing his punches.

Wilder is our boxing pick to win this fight, but at -625 with bet365, his odds are far from appealing. The betting line on Breazeale is +500 at Unibet. Perhaps a better option is to back Wilder in the Round Group betting at odds of +600 with bet365 in rounds 10-12.
