What matters most when it comes to the playoffs? Would you rather have the more talented team with a better record or the team with the hot hand that has everything going its way right now? That is the story of the Western division finals as the Calgary Stampeders take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Calgary has been the best team in the CFL this season by far. Even though they lost three of their last four in the regular season, they still finished the year with the league’s best record. While they played sloppy, undisciplined football in the three losses, they were able to get it together when it mattered most in the regular season finale.
Then again, the Lions were not exactly trying to win that game, so did they get it together? Or were they gifted the win because the Lions didn’t care?
With arguably the league’s best pivot in the backfield, Bo Levi Mitchell, they have managed to remain one of the best offences in the league despite losing several guys to injuries. Blue Bombers pivot Matt Nichols isn’t exactly lighting up the stat sheet, but he is doing the one thing that matters most at this time of year (other than winning). He is not making mistakes.
So—who’s going to win?
Calgary has been the best team in the league all year long. But it is hard to overlook how efficient Matt Nichols has been playing as well as running back Andrew Harris. Another strong outing by Harris could be what the Blue Bombers need to pull off another upset.
Take the Blue Bombers (+175) to win over the Stampeders (-222.22). If they don’t win straight up, they will win against the spread (+5). As for the over/under—go with the under (52.5).
