World number one and home favourite Barty had to dig deep to beat the American 18th seed Alison Riske 6-3 1-6 6-4 in the fourth round. In doing so, Barty avenged losses in her last two matches to Riske, including at Wimbledon 2019 where Riske won 3-6 6-2 6-3 in the fourth round.
Kvitova, who beat Barty 6-1 6-4 in the quarter-finals of last year’s Australian Open, also had a battle in overcoming Greece’s Maria Sakkari 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 6-2 in the fourth round.
It was a match in which both players struggled with their serves, with there being 12 service breaks and 28 breakpoints. Kvitova showed her resilience in rallying from trailing by a set and a break down to win through.
Ashleigh Barty vs Petra Kvitova Betting Lines & Prediction
The 23 year-old Australian Ashleigh Barty trails her 29 year-old opponent 4-3 on the head-to-head stats, but Barty has won the last three occasions they have met.
It’s also worth noting that these friends played against each other on no fewer than five occasions in 2019, so there’s not going to be a great deal that either of them doesn’t know about the other.
This is a tough match to call in terms of tennis betting predictions, with Kvitova capable of beating anyone on her day. The Money Line odds see Barty as the marginal favourite at -137 (1.72) with bet365, with Kvitova available at +114 (2.14) with 888Sport.
However, for the tip we’ll go to the ‘Total Sets’ betting, where 3 sets is on offer at +125 (2.25) with Betway.
