Estonian Anett Kontaveit is in the last eight of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career, but the 24-year-old was made to go the distance by Polish 18-year-old Iga Swiatek in the fourth round before coming through 6-7 (4-7) 7-5 7-5.
It was a far tougher encounter for Kontaveit than her third round match, where she breezed past the Swiss sixth seed Belinda Bencic 6-0 6-1.
Fourth seed Simona Halep overcame Belgian 16th seed Elise Mertens to secure her place in the last eight of the tournament with a 6-4 6-4 win.
In doing so, the Wimbledon champion and 2018 Australian Open finalist maintained her perfect record of not dropping a single set in this tournament so far.
The 28 year-old Romanian Halep will be confident of taking her place in the semi-finals, having faced Kontaveit twice in the past and not having dropped a set against her in either of those matches.
Anett Kontaveit vs Simona Halep Betting Lines & Prediction
The fact that Anett Kontaveit is now in unchartered territory in a Grand Slam event and had to come through a long match in the last round should also work in favour of Halep. In terms of betting predictions, Simona Halep looks a worthy favourite in the tennis odds.
The tip is in the Set Betting though, where we’ll take Halep to win 2-0 at best odds of +110 (2.10) with bet365.
