It took him a while, but Johnny Manziel finally notched his first win in the CFL last week with a 40-10 thumping of the Toronto Argonauts. Maybe beating the Argos is nothing to hang your hat on, but he got his first—and that is the important thing.
Could he possibly guide the team to another win this weekend against his former team, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats? A few weeks ago, the notion would have sounded crazy, but not anymore.
Manziel hasn’t become the stat monster he was in college, but he is learning to play within the system. His game has become much more efficient, and he is making fewer mistakes with each game he plays.
On the other side of the field, the Ticats offence looked lost last week without wide receiver Brandon Banks. With pivot Jeremiah Masoli dealing with knee issues this week, it would be surprising if they had him play in a meaningless game with the playoffs looming.
So—who’s going to win?
Should Masoli play, the game will likely be a close one. He is good enough to keep the Ticats in the game against a team like Montreal. But in the end, with Montreal being much more motivated to win than the Eskimos, the Alouettes will come out on top.
If Masoli doesn’t play, the Tiger-Cats will likely sit several players making this an easy win for the Alouettes
Take Montreal to win (+230) over Hamilton (-280). If Hamilton does win, they will not cover the spread (7). As for the over/under—take the under.
